Who Are They?
The talented designers at J&R Woodworking and Indian Trail create timeless bedroom furniture collections together. Indian Trail specializes in manufacturing solid wood beds, then J&R builds the matching case goods. Both of these companies draw inspiration from their heritage and the world’s natural beauty. J&R Woodworking and Indian Trail have over 30 unique collections in styles from traditional, shaker, and mission to rustic, farmhouse, mid-century modern, and contemporary. Each year, they routinely come out with new collections made in their shops powered by massive generators. The large equipment powered without conventional electricity supplies is a great picture of how these Amish shops combine the best of the old and the new.
Their Process
Special attention is given to each order from start to finish, even on one-of-a-kind pieces made to a customer’s custom dimensions. Once an order arrives at the shop, the team places the necessary lumber and component orders from a local sawmill. The lumber arrives rough from the mill, harvested from sturdy North American hardwoods, and kiln-dried to remove moisture that leads to warping or cracking. These Amish builders in Indiana diligently inspect each board and remove any defect or weak points in the lumber.
What Makes Their Furniture Special
On top of the 30-plus style-rich designs, both J&R and Indian Trail have taken great pride in their woodworking techniques. One of these is “mortise and tenon construction.” This method uses wooden pegs or dowels that secure the furniture with great strength and is a nod to the sturdiness of early American timber-framed barns.
